Possible (because I've been wrong before) conflicting info on Patrick's site.

My Head shows casting # 3836848, Patrick's shows that to be a '56,
but the casting date is D 7 9

what the....?

Jim,

3836848 was the casting code from 1956-1962

D 7 9
D = 4 = April
7 = 7th day
9 = 1959

Thanks Tim, but I'm still confused, I'm guessing Patrick's info showing '56 (instead of '56-'62) was just incomplete.
Where is your info from...?

Also, (in your reply) was this a typo? 9 = 1958

Thanks again, Jim

Thanks for pointing out the year error, Jim (it is now edited/corrected, above)

If Patrick posted that code was available only in 1956, that is incorrect.
Does Patrick show codes for 235 heads after 1956?

My info/sources for castings codes are listed on this page on my website.

yea, I suspect it's Patrick's typo,

they show 3836848 as '56
3864848 as '58-'62

http://www.patricksantiquecars.com/chevy-gmc-auto-parts.html#chevy19

your info and another site shows your info matches....I'm more than good with that, Thanks

Jim
