I'm getting ready to swap in a 350 gen1 engine and T5 transmission into a 56 3100. I currently have a 283 and a Muncie 3 speed. I plan on using the same bell housing attached to the 283 not sure what type of starter to use. My guess is I have to use the old style 3 bolt starter that bolts to the bell housing and not the 2 bolt that bolts to the block. Is there a mini starter that will work for this engine combination. Also putting a new flywheel and clutch etc in it. Anything special need to know about that , other than a 168t flywheel and early throw out bearing?

Use your existing bell housing, release arm & bearing, and 3 bolt starter. Replacement flywheel (168t) should be for an 11" clutch.
The T5 likely uses a different clutch disc. Not sure about a mini starter with that combination as they mount to the block instead of the bell housing.

Thanks, pretty much what I was thinking, but would be nice to be able to use a mini starter. Going to change the input shaft to the 10 spline Jeep.

When I used a cast iron Chevy V8 bellhousing on my engine dyno, we had to cut part of the the corner off of it that mounted the 3-bolt starter to make a block-mount starter fit. The aluminum bell housing with the built-in starter clearance didn't look sturdy enough to handle the torque load the dyno was capable of exerting on the housing.
