Well, started the day off by breaking my old vise. I was torquing on it at a bad angle and broke part of the base casting. Not a good way to start the day.

Since I still needed a vise to get through the day's chores, the Wife and I went out to the local flea market known as Denio's Farmer's Market and Auction out in Roseville, CA.

After looking at a bunch of the vender stalls, I spotted what I was looking for. I found an old Paramo No 6 vise. After haggling with the vendor, we finally settled a price of $120.

Really nice Made in England vise complete with swivel base. Looks old, but in good shape. Very solid. A quick search online shows that I got it for a decent price and that they have a good reputation. We'll see how well it holds up.

I got about 25 years out of my old Made in China vise and it had a very hard, abusive life.

Sweet! Probably last a long time, I like older ones. I have a huge one that belonged to my wife's grandfather. When he passed, my father in law went back to PA to get his stuff and move his mom out here. He told me had brought me a big vise, and that he opened it all the way up and took the slide out so he could lift it. I thought he was exaggerating a bit but, nope, it is huge!

Yes! I found that last night and have already bookmarked it. Thanks for the link though. Good stuff out there. I never realized that there was as big a community rebuilding and collecting vises as we have here with our old GM trucks. Kind of an eye opener.
