I have a 327 in my 58 2-ton. Supposedly those were a well rounded engine. Good balance of power and economy.

I guess it depends on what you want from your truck.

With the info you provided above, I am assuming the engine it came with is a V-8. 327 is bigger and newer than original but, a good running newer 350 may make more power and get better mileage (depending on build).

Well this is not going to make much sense down here separated from the conversation it was in.

Lee, please read the very first thread in General Truck Talk Forum. It was written by the late Charlie “Cletis” Harden. It does a very good job of explaining the site and how it works. It will only take you a few minutes and will clarify why posts are moved.

Your thread had moved from the “Brought it home” subject, to pulling the engine and disassembling it.

Hi Lee. Welcome to the site. I must admit I'm also confused about what will become of the rest of your post. I guess this is the new thread, though.

If you're in Catoosa, I'm nearby. If you're in Spavinaw, not so much. If I can ever help, give me a shout. I have a 1951 1/2 ton Chevy.

Thanks Ol'Red,
I am in Spavinaw all summer and Catoosa all winter because I have a small campground there. I really don't have anything else to say about the engine other than its pulled and probably junk I only removed the plugs. I'm just exploring the truck at this point looking at what I need to do to it. I had in mind to keep it as original as possible, but its looking a bit harder to do. I really didn't need an engine rebuild on top of all the other work to do to it.
I guess This ends my time in the engine shop for now.
