It has a later model 6 banger that the present owner and I am not sure what it is. I do know I've never seen a valve cover like this one. It has a Quadrajet 4bbl, electronic ign and the bottom pulley has 3 belt grooves. They pulled the radiator to replace the blown electric fan. It's supposedly bolted to a 400 automatic. The truck has been slammed so I couldn't get underneath enough to verify. It does have an open drive shaft and is sporting 15" Cragers and dual exhaust. The 4 bl & manifold are likely aftermarket.

I've found only a couple pics on the WWW of that crazy valve cover setup. It's either longer than the 228 that probably came in it or they mounted it further forward to make the auto tranny and open drivetrain fit. Perhaps this is the reason for the electric fan. I can see alot of that smog crapolla disappearing.
New mysteries to decipher.

Pushrod cover on 292's about 6" tall, much taller than smaller engines, in case you can see it.

'55 GMC 370 w/270, 420 4 speed, grain, dump bed truck from ND. Works OK.
| | | | | Joined: Jul 2000 Posts: 2,187 Insomniac | | Insomniac Joined: Jul 2000 Posts: 2,187 | The ugly boxes on the top of the valve cover are for the PAIR system. PAIR = Pulse Air Injection Reactor. It pushes fresh air into the exhaust to help the engine burn more cleanly.
