I am already looking to change the front end. I am new to this but mechanically inclined and have some friends that can help me out with this when I get it. My question is can some one point me towards some good info on modifying a 39. I see alot of stuff for the 50s trucks. Thanks any help would be great.
Matt | | | | | Joined: Dec 2003 Posts: 1,554 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Dec 2003 Posts: 1,554 | First of all good luck with your new project,I am sure you will have much fun with it.There are two ways to update the frontend,one is subframing,which is cutting your frame and putting something like a Camaro frontend in.The second is to buy an aftermarket Mustang 2 type front end and install it.I prefer the second method although it is a bit more costly.I put a mustang 2 setup in my 55 2nd series from TCI.There site is www.totalcostinvolved.com another outfit is Heidts.I dont know what their site is but their address is Heidts Hot Rod Shop 1345N.Old Rand Road Wauconda,IL 60084 Phone is 800 8418188.I believe both of these outfits make frontends for the older pickups.get in touch with them and they will send you a catalog. hope this helps. just follow the instructions and measure everything about 50 times to make sure it is on straight.
ONe of the most important things is to make SURE that you mark the CENTER line of the wheels before you tear out the POS original frontend.
Also, make sure that your welder knows how to improvise and adapt to the situation.. I used a former Navy Welder.. he did a GREAT job.

No Aries heads here.....I use a Bill Fischer 12 port BUT not on the 39
Go look at the 39 in the gallery it's got a stock front with Nissan disc brakes
I guess it's what you want from your truck. I was pretty happy with the 228 put the 302 in and had to give up my Volvo O/D gearbox
I've never been much on front clippin' It never ends there just like goin' from 228 to 302 always means more stuff
If you wanna custom go ahead and clip it BUT if you want a truck
