| | | | Joined: Dec 2016 Posts: 80 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Dec 2016 Posts: 80 | I’ve discovered that I have a 235 with a 216 carb on it as the fuel line inlet is on the side not in the front as the assembly manual shows. Secondly the assembly manual shows that I have the oil bath air cleaner for a 6000 series. Assembly Manual section 6 sheet 15.00. Researching pictures online, I see both. What’s everyone’s input on this, I want to stick with originality. Thanks

When used on a car it had hydraulic lifters (all truck 235s came with mechanical lifters).
Casting date (block): K 20 8
K = month = 11 = November
20 = day = 20th
8 = year = 1958 (a late 1958 engine could have been used in an early 1959 truck)
Engine "ID": F1121J
F = Flint, Michigan assembly plant
11 = month = November
21 = day = 21st
J = regular production 3100-3800

| | | | | Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 12,029 Cruising in the Passing Lane | | Cruising in the Passing Lane Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 12,029 | original to the first owner, the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, or to you? for starters, the Assembly Manual is a 1955 document [pages are all dated], no telling what changed by 58/9 - unless you can document "original" and have the maintenance history of the last 60 years, no point in creating mysteries .... a Roch B carb is a Roch B, and any PO may have felt the need for the optional oil bath air cleaner

It does have solid lifters but has a fiber camshaft gear. Others have no doubt had there hands in this truck but seems as though most everything is what should have been on the truck, as far as engine dates and #'s. Was just curious with the air filter, wish GM had saved a bit more documentation from back then but we should be happy with all of the information we do have!

Sorry, you can't get anywhere anymore being a mechanic looking for parts information these days without a VIN #! I constantly find myself having to turn back the clock when talking about my truck! but that is what makes it fun!
