I put a post on the main board with plenty of views but no replies. I suppose the main board surfers don't know what a 9 footer is valued at?
Any of you bought or sold a 9 foot bed for a 47-54? I'm looking for one but am not sure what the right price range is for one.

Any help would be very appreciated- Just so you know I'm not trying to sell one- I want to buy one for my "51 GMC tonner, was a flatbed but I want to make it a 1 ton with a box along the lines of Fox's.

Well, Greg, there were at least 3 different sets of bed parts for 1-ton bed parts from 47-55st.

Let's start with what year?

Also who is "Fox": "I want to make it a 1 ton with a box along the lines of Fox's."

Have you checked availability and prices at Mar-K, Jim Carter, and Classic Parts?

If you are interested in a used bed, place a Want Ad in the Parts Meet forum. You can then compare used-bed offers against reproduction bed offers.

1-ton beds are are quite rare (let's say 8,400) compared to 1/2 ton (let's say 120,000), or even 3/4 ton (let's say 54,000). That is most likely why you are not getting price suggestions?

I used an old box I found in the bush that was in actually pretty good shape as a template for the box I built. I used the cross sills on the new bed. After I was done, I sold the sides and front panel for $200. Yes, they were very solid but the dings, dents and rust weren't worth repairing to me. A few months after I sold those pieces I saw them come back up for sale on the same classified site. On the classifieds where I live I see numerous 1 tons come up for sale. I wouldn't pay much for a box. A guy could pick up a decent complete 1 ton in my area for $1000 then part out front fenders, hood, etc and be close to $200 difference leftover for the box. Up to you what you want to spend. Hope this helps. Good luck. Be careful, these big old girls worm into your shop somehow! 😃

Thank you to the man who needs no introduction– I’m definitely not opposed to buying a parts truck. I have plenty of space and have been successful with that approach before. I’ve yet to see one with the bed I want locally- I’m in a farm area so lots of big trucks, 1 1/2 or 2 tons everywhere. I do have a couple short boxes (bed only) that I’ve bought for little off CL, I thought that I’d be able to find someone that was going to cut down their long box into a short and trade them. It’s been a year and am yet to find a local enough trade.
I have this week found a nine foot bed that someone made into a trailer. The asking price seems high, hence my question here.
My other thought was to have new panels bent, but finding a 9’ brake hasn’t been the easiest, and all the other bits that a full bed would include.

Greg. I did similar to Fox above, found a box to use as a template and fabricated new sides. I was lucky, bought flat 16 gauge new steel and The guy that bent the panels for me charged $100 to form the sides and 6 stake pockets. No the stake pockets are not stock looking but I'm happy with them. Also made new cross sills out of 2" square tubing. There is a good tech tip here on this site https://www.stovebolt.com/techtips/bed/bedsides/index.html on building new bedsides. I followed this using the dimensions I needed for my truck and am very happy with the results. See my pictures in the gallery, email me if you have questions, I'll help if I can. Ray

I sold a rusty old thing in June for $500. It had front panel rusted out, several bad sills no tail gate and rear sill was curved inward . The guy drove 1200 miles from TX to pick it up. Good luck in your search.

Plowboy- Love your truck, thanks too. I have talked to that guy with the perpetual craigslist ad. He has a pair of 8' sides and running boards to match. Said they're nice and the running boards are excellent- asking 450 for the lot of em. I've got them stashed away in my head but swould rather have 9' so..
Also priced out sheet today in case I decide to go the way you went. Really want to find a GMC logo tailgate too. I have a Chevrolet and one that's not stamped (came off a '47 gmc).
