1948 Chevrolet 1/2 Ton Truck w/ 1962 235ci motor.

I'm replacing the oil pan gasket & timing gear cover gasket. On the oil pan gasket, attached are a couple pics of the front & rear main bearing caps I've been cleaning the channels out for a few hours today. Do these look good to go? Also I noticed the original gaskets were Cork on both sides and the front and rear of the pan where it sets over these main bearing caps. Took a while to get all that removed.

1) Today the new gasket kit comes with Cork on the sides and Rubber strips on the front and rear where it sets over top the main bearing caps.

2) I'm doing this job with the engine in the truck, laying on my back on a dolly. So I'm planning to use a product called "Gasgacinch" which comes with a little dauber applicator, advertised as a sealant adhesive. Plan is to use this to glue the cork gaskets up top on the block, then the 2 front and rear rubber gaskets up top, and then after this, to apply some Permatex Ultra Black RTV silicone onto the Pan sides and secure it up in place.

3) Should I also use the Permatex RTV Silicone on the front & rear of the oil pan where it joins up to those new Rubber Strips (see above) over top of the 2 main bearing caps. I'm curious about this last part, is it correct to also use the RTV Silicone in conjunction with the Rubber Gaskets, or is it just for the sides with the Cork gaskets?

4) The Timing Gear cover gasket is Cardboard?? Does this need any special prep? I was planning to glue this onto the block using the "Gasgacinch" product, then place some Ultra Black RTV silicone all around the Cover and then apply it to the block.

Many thanks for the tips mates!

More than clean enough. Way overkill on the gasket sealer. Stovebolt has a Tech Tip on installing pan gaskets. Click on Tech Tips at the top of the page and go to the engine section.🛠
