Hello,I'm working on my first ground up restoration of a 49 1/2 ton p/u and I could use some advice on floor pans available from the different suppliers.I've noticed in their catalogs that they all seem to differ slightly in whats included.I'm talking about individual left and right panels and not a complete floor pan.Some include a portion of the toe board,some curve around the tranny hole,and some are just a flat panel.I guess I should determine how much repair I need to do and buy the one that covers what I need.My question is are all these repair panels comparable in fit and quality or are there some I should avoid? I got a passenger side patch panel with toe board from Classic Parts (formerly Chevy Duty). It seemed to be the right thickness. The toe board and floor pan panel was ONE piece of metal. My '49 floor board is a separate piece from the toe board. You are right to determine how much of you floor pan you will need. I didn't think to check Goodmark Industries in Lawrenceville, Ga. which is where I have gotten some good patch panels (cab corners, etc). Might save yourself the shipping charges.
Do you happen to have an extra set of rust free front fenders?

Thanks for the reply and the tip about Goodmark Ind.I just wanted to get some opinions such as yours before I started ordering patch panels.I've got a 48 parts truck and I know where a couple more are but I don't know the condition of the fenders.I'll try and get a good look and let you know.I found a bit more rust damage than I originally saw and it is mostly on the passenger side too.I've welded pipe and sheet metal for 20 yrs. but this is my first attempt at installing patch panels and all info is appreciated! I'm going through the same thing with my 49 1/2 ton. I was puzzled why I had so much rust on the passenger side of the floorboard while the rest was relatively rust free. Finally found the heater was steadily leaking a small amount of coolent down the passenger side firewall to the floorboard. Won't do me much good to replace the sheet metal without fixing the heater leak as well. Just thought I'd mention it in case you have the same problem.

Thanks DW,that does explain a lot.I had suspected that at some time this truck had heater problems before.The core that is in it appears to be newer as if it were changed out but the heater motor had the wrong rotation direction.Thanks for your reply. Chip
