The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area Paint and Body Shop 1948 Medium Cream

I've finally got my cab work all done and am preparing to paint the firewall before mounting the cab back on the frame.

I'm seriously leaning towards "Medium Cream" but have seen numerous photos of trucks painted this color but
there appears to be 2 different Medium Creams out there. However I could have been mistaken ( happens more than ya know)
One of the Medium Creams appears to have a bit more yellow tint.

I gave paint numbers that I found here to a paint shop and they mixed up a small sample I could try and it's quite yellow.

Does anyone have any personal experience with this color? You don't see it often and it's one of the reason I was leaning
towards it. (Plus I don't think it'll show some of the minor flaws with my body work that a darker color would)

I have only used it for a body pinstripe on a 54 Chevrolet Suburban.

I think I got the paint from PPG, after giving them the Ditzler code shown in the Stovebolt.com Tech Tip.

Can you post a photo of your sample? Mine looks like the attachment, below.

Tim Thanks for the response! Here's the color I was delivered as a small 2 oz sample. After stirring it up I just used a brush since I didn't want to spend the time cleaning up a spray guy for a sample.

That might not be too far off. Mine might be too light (it is from memory).

Have you looked at the samples on the paint sheets in the 47-55 Truck Colors Tech Tip?

If you go down to the footnotes, you'll also see that color-name had different codes/formulas in earlier years.

Those samples/chips are quite old and distorted by aging. No one really knows the exact original shade.

I'm thinking the color may be fairly close too, esp. when I place my photo next to the samples.
Thanks for the info and I'll send those numbers over to the paint shop so they can do a cross-reference.

I have a genuine copy of the Du Pont "DELUX" Colors 1946 TRUCKS color chips Bulletin Number 6, issued November 8, 1946.
The 93-530 medium cream appears closer in color to Jeff's picture than Tim's.
It definitely has a distinct yellow hue to it.
The 1946 medium cream has the same number as the '47-'54 medium cream (93-530).
(Please excuse my authoritative, boastful, don't-even-try-to-talk-to-me tone. A good friend of mine just recently gave me this bulletin full of very nice unfaded paint chips, and I can hardly contain myself )

P.S. Tim, I believe that the cow which provided the cream for your sample needs to be checked for mastitis. Don't despair. Its still good for making chocolate milk.

I prefer a creamier/buttery-er cream.

Carl, scan/photograph your chip and attach it here. That will add to Jeff's collection of scanned images that are in my Tech Tip.

I'll try to remember to check my 1946 Truck Data Book, but the aged/faded(?) image below might be of use.

I compared the image which you posted with my paint chips bulletin and I can see no discernible difference. Your chips haven't faded in m opinion.
I do find it amazing that a computer is capable of producing such accurate colors though outer flipping space.

Well the consensus is finalized and I made the leap for Medium Cream!
With the help of my assistant the cab finally got mated back on to it's restored frame.
It's amazing how close the engine's proximity is to the firewall!
