Hi, I'm a new member I have a 1956 gmc 100 short bed that just won its first junior at the aaca in Hershey pa. Going for a senior at next meet,can some one please tell if the hood hinges are cadmium plated or body color, and what color are the springs.my are body color at the moment.some guy at show said the truck is perfect but he thinks the hinges should be cadium plated,he said chevys were cad plated didn't know about gmc. Thanks for any info.

I got some really nice looking original hinges at the junk yard last week and they appeared to have some sort of galvanized coating.

I pulled a hinge off an AD which had never been removed before, and there was what looked like plumber's putty under it which is what GM used to keep rain out of the cab. Once the putty was cleaned off I could see a shiny, metallic silver finish. I have used Rustoleum self-etching primer under Rustoleum metallic silver paint which is a very close duplication of the original finish, which I believe was cadmium plating.

That guy was me...I was 99% sure they should be cadmium hinges, but wanted the GMC guys to weigh in.
