I need some help. The body ID tag for my '49 3600 that should be on the passenger side firewall is missing. The truck is a light blue color, but it appears from the firewall that it started as a medium to dark shade of green. Does anyone know if there is a database where I can backtrack the VIN serial number to get the paint color? Thanks for the help.

Don't know of anything that ties VIN to color. I have never seen a S/N tag anywhere but in the drivers door jam of an AD truck. The older Chevy cars did get a Fisher Body Tag on the firewall however as you may be aware. Chevrolet, or indeed GM, did not stamp paint color info on their older units.

The original color of AD trucks was a dark green unless one of the several no cost optional colors was chosen. Forrester Green (47-52, this became Juniper Green in 53') would have been a standard dark green color in 49' with Channel Green being an optional green color. It was somewhat lighter.

Seacrest Green was also an option in 1949 (the combination of Fathom Green and Channel Green were the standard colors on Suburbans that year, they were most likely available as options on all truck models that year).
