The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area Paint and Body Shop Primer color

I am doing a "Fautina Paint" on my '48 GMC 1 ton. The front fenders, hood, and doors have black primer while the cab is red/brown primer. Wanting to know what was used on the bedsides, rear fenders and tailgate.

Trying again here, I think the paint on my truck is original on all but the bed that I built. I am wanting to do a "Fautina Paint" on the bed. On the Hood, fenders, and doors black primer shows where the paint is worn thin, while the top of the cab appears to be red/brown primer. Wondering about the bedsides, rear fenders, and tailgate. Did GMC at the factory use different primer colors on some parts. It is new paint wet sanded to show primer in select places.

Most likely no one knows.

My guess is that they used whatever primer they had on hand.

I just got done removing and repainting my 53 5 window. All the primer on my truck over the metal and under the original color was black. Truck was manufactured in the Oakland plant. Hope this helps
