I finally got my 270 rebuilt in the ol 51 3 ton. I drove it one time in the front yard and the water pump went out. I pulled it off pretty easily but the pulley is stuck on the pump and is not budging no matter what we try. I really need help finding means to get tje pulley off or someone who could steer me to a new/reman pump.

Any ideas ?
Thanks, Troy

The pulley is pressed on. Try using a puller bolted to the fan attaching holes with the jackscrew bearing against the center shaft. GMC pump rebuild kits are available on Ebay.

Jerry, done tried that puller thing. It's pressed on like you said. I can't rebuild the pump if I can't get the stupid pulley off. It's getting bent up already frown

How many bolts are you using? I'd suggest making a puller from steel plate that pulls on all 4 bolts at once. A piece of 1/2" plate with a fine thread nut welded to the middle for the jack bolt, and 4 bolts sharing the load should keep the pulley from bending.

What is bent? Is it the pulley or the shaft. You probably just need to buy a new water pump with a pulley on it. If you have bent the pulley, you will never get it straight. There are some on eBay, but they aren't cheap. It is a GMC only part.

Hang onto the old one, Red. I can make a pulley, or adapt a different one to your pump shaft.

Wow, that's cool Mr. Jerry H. ! When I'm able to pry the other one off (if I can), I'll holler at you all the way from Alabama !
