The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area Interiors Window crank assembly '46 Chevy

Trying to understand how this assembly works. They move freely, but one (right door) springs the window mechanism upward when cranked open, unless held in place. The left side stays down and does not move unless the window crank is turned. Neither door has glass installed, yet. I assume they should both operate the same, but which if either is correct?

I have a 42 1.5 ton where I went through and repaired the window crank units. Sounds to me like your left side is working correctly as it should not try and spring back up. You might look at the spring in the right side door panel. It may have came loose or broke.

Finally got back on this task. I compared the springs on both doors. Neither are broken and are attached the same. The one with the problem, however does look tighter wound and where attached to the remainder of the assembly has less of an overlap on to the “lug”. My guess is the spring needs replaced.
