So look carefully.

I am currently digging back in to a 1953 3800 (one ton) with a nine foot bed. I've owned it since 1979, and drove it until 1982 (or so). My wife got me involved in restoring it back in 2002, got the body removed and the frame redone, then things came up. Now I am retired and starting again. If anyone is interested I have photos on Imagur ( https://timwhiteblues.imgur.com/ ). I live way back in the woods in the Ozarks on 40 acres at the end of a 2 1/2 mile private road. Tim

If you have access to a press the rebuild kit for $80 is not a bad choice. I set mine in to guy on eBay exchange for rebuilt with the proper size pulley think it was $120 all in. The kit was not readily available when I did mine. They are actually more common now than a few years back and the price has come down but still pricey. Places like Rock Auto, Napa and others did not have and do not have any stock or parts now or then.
FIlling Station has them in stock for $169 complete which appears to be about the going rate. Or without the pulley $99 but means you need access to a press or puller and knowledge to ge the pulley on and off with damaging the pulley or the bearing etc.

There are quite a few military surplus around and the people who have them know they can get a good price for them. I have picked up a few cheap ones that still had the military pulley. The sellers weren't aware that the pump was the same once you press the pulley off. Your chances of finding a cheap way out are pretty slim. Rare parts fetch a good price and you have to be prepared for that when you own a 65 year old vehicle. | | | | | Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 29,756 Kettle Custodian (pot stirrer) | | Kettle Custodian (pot stirrer) Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 29,756 | The rebuild kit is definitely the way to go- - - -just be careful pressing the parts in and out.
