Can someone with access to a factory parts manual please look up the application for camshaft #3836484? The cam grinder I'm communicating with tells me the new camshaft they sell has been reverse-engineered from that cam.
Thanks!
Jerry

In the *-57 parts book (file named 57cmpc0142.jpg), that number comes back to

53-55 CORV., 6 cyl
54-55 UTIL., with 261
56-57 COMM., UTIL. (6 cyl) assy. (cast 3836390)

OK, I found some specifications. The company I'm dealing with is Elgin Industries. They offer a 261/235 Corvette cam (new, not reground) for $117.00. That's approximately half what the resto-ripoff places are charging. The cam I have in hand right now is obviously new- - - -no question about it maybe being somebody's regrind being represented as a new cam. The tech rep I've been talking with says it's currently in production, and they sell 20-30 of them a year. The Elgin part number is E-293-S.

Note: "Elgin Cams" which shows up on an internet search is a different company- - - - -they build costom-specification racing cams.

Does the Sealed Power cam have the same specs as the Elgin?

Sealed Power has a new 261/235 camshaft.
CS293 specs

A couple of months ago, I purchased CS293 cam at Summit Racing for $99 free shipping.
They increased their price to $125.

Rock Auto has it for $111, plus shipping.

You can also get 5% off at RockAuto if you know the promo code number.
They don't advertise the 5% promo code.

Believe it or not, the best price right now is Advance Auto, with free shipping,
if you use the 30% off promo code. They don't advertise the 30% promo code.
Total cost $110.55, which includes $6.26 PA sales tax, with free shipping.

Promo codes are always online.
If you need any promo codes, let me know.

The numbers look identical. What concerned me at first was the "advertised duration" of the Elgin cam which is 290 degrees. That's well into racing cam territory, so it's going to be interesting to see what the degree wheel says after the cam and crank are installed. I'm expecting to find a long area of very slow lift that keeps the idle from getting rough due to exhaust gas reversion. Most street cams have an advertised duration somewhere in the 250-260 degree range and a fairly rapid rate of lift just off the base circle.
