Did it stop registering oil pressure recently?
No oil pressure showing on the gauge at all RPM?
Is the engine making bad sounds?
Do you have the valve cover off to see if oil is getting to the rocker arms?
Oil pumps don't go bad very often. Pick up screens do get plugged with sludge however, and gauges can go bad (not often though).
Need a lot more information to help you pinpoint your problem.

First, remove the oil pressure line and plumb in a piece of tubing to a catch container. Start the engine and let it idle for a short time to see if any oil gets pumped out. It's possible your gauge has quit, or the line from the engine to the gauge is clogged, The relief valve in the base of the pump could also be stuck open. Have you pulled the distributor to make sure the oil pump drive tab on the bottom of the shaft hasn't broken off? Once the distributor is out, use a piece of 1/2" round stock in a drill motor with a drive tab ground onto the end of it to drive the pump clockwise. thanks guys
the motor is newly rebuilt
I checked the gauge line with some air pressure and it works
screen is clean and so are tubes
shaft on distributer is ok but I wonder if I didn't have it seated all the way down ?

That's a pretty common mistake. Did you pack the oil pump gears with Vaseline when you assembled the engine?

You didn't put an o-ring on the distributor base did you? That will allow the distributor to work but not the oil pump.

no vaseline just dipped in new oil, no O ring
I made the shaft and put it in a cordless drill and spun the oil pump and it registered on the oil pressure gauge I didn't have the pan on just a small tub oil under pump
so it basically just poured out the tube for connecting rod jets but it still came up on the oil gauge a bit
