I just finished a 1946 chevy pickup street rod now on a 1950 chevy 3100 . also a GMC 220 with duals and a 1948 chevy 2 ton | | | | Joined: Mar 2007 Posts: 4,185 Moderator | Moderator Joined: Mar 2007 Posts: 4,185 | Here in Canada, I believe it would be a 216. | | | | Joined: May 2016 Posts: 56 Wrench Fetcher | Wrench Fetcher Joined: May 2016 Posts: 56 | So, I found out that GMC used a separate motor in the A.D. TRUCKS. Trucks either had a 228 or a 248 , both being full oil pressure with insert bearings So, now my question is ,, did all the engines use the same block or was the GMC block bigger ? Are these GMC engines hard to get parts for ? Thanks, Charles Pretzer

A USA GMC light truck would have had a 228 (1/2 ton to 1-ton, 250 series or smaller).

The first 3 digits will be the engine size. Could be a 248 or 270. I don't recall what year they began to produce the 302 | | | | Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,262 Bubba - Curmudgeon | Bubba - Curmudgeon Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,262 | "Could be a 248 or 270." Probably not?Post the engine serial number code as suggested above by Elderly Iron. Do not be surprised if there is a letter before the engine displacement. | | | | Joined: Dec 2006 Posts: 103 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Dec 2006 Posts: 103 | 55-9 I'm sure on. 48-54, not so much, though the 50 GMC 2.5 ton did have a 248 in it with the big port head. Not that it could be said it was original! www.oldgmctrucks.com is the best place to find ID info. Perhaps that's what happened here, and then someone made up a replacement door tag with number from title instead of the correct/original door tag. | | | | Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,262 Bubba - Curmudgeon | Bubba - Curmudgeon Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,262 | In NC and NY, there is a good chance you might need a bonded title (because those codes should not be the same).
Is that code on your title/registration? If it us, and it is titled/registered in your name, you are OK. | | | | Joined: May 2016 Posts: 56 Wrench Fetcher | Wrench Fetcher Joined: May 2016 Posts: 56 | thanks everyone for the input !! very much appreciated
