Hi guys,
i swapt in my 49Chevy 3100 engine to a 350/350 engine /tranny with a rear 10 bolt axle from a 1991Suburban.
A Highway speed with 2300rpm brings 55miles.
What can i change to get a higher hywy Speed?

Taller tires, what is your diff. ratio now?

'37 GMC T-18 w/ DD 4-53T, RTO-610, 6231 aux., '95 GMC running gear, full disc brakes, power steering, 22.5 wheels and tires.
'47 GMC 1 ton w/ 302, NP-540, 4wd, full width Blazer front axle.
'54 GMC 630 w/ 503 gasser, 5 speed, ex fire truck, shortened WB 4', install 8' bed.
'55 GMC 370 w/270, 420 4 speed, grain, dump bed truck from ND. Works OK.

Like Ed says, find out what ratio you have now & change to a higher gear. It probably is 3:73. That is what was used in those trucks because they have O-drive trans. Probably your best bet would be to swap the TH350 for a 700 R-4 o-drive trans.

They say money can't buy happiness. It can buy old Chevy trucks though. Same thing.
