To make things simple and I found a local 366 big block would swapping a 366 big block which I think came in c50s and GMC 4000s as an option. Would me swapping a 366 and clark 285 5 speed be too hard of a swap?

Have to make side mounts, see if larger radiators were/are available for that truck, might have to move or make new crossmember-trivial. Does the 366 you found come complete? Bellhousing, clutch fork, flywheel, clutch, starter, engine mounts, power steering pump, alt., etc.

Might also be good to measure total length of both engines, fan to distr.

Im assuming the 47 quart cooling system should be PLENTY for a standard 366 and I am assuming it does I am currently talking with the guy who has it now. The trans is complete minus the clutch. he has the fork throw out bearing and bell housing. That's what I was asking the clutch questions on the other post. Dang so a 366 does not have the lower mount like a 305. Ok so those could be fabbed up though. I will measure my motor and when I go look at his I will measure his.

BoilerUp, I have a 366 in my 59. located in Belton. If you need to see it or measure you can come check it out. it is not a show piece but gets my 2 ton down the road.

A piece of 2" square tubing and a welder should make short work of fabricating a center-mount motor support, and another one to hold up the back of the transmission should get the mounting problems solved. That makes the type of bellhousing you use a moot point. I believe there's a 12" clutch available for the 366 engine, providing you have the right flywheel for it. It adds quite a bit of extra swept area and pulling power over the 11".

I noticed one 366 had a lower middle mount on it so if those are possible to find then i can just weld the mount to the cross member and then i can run the clark 5 speed with no issues
