The short version is, can I put a 12 v starter drive on a 6 v starter? Both the starters are stompers.
Reason is to change flywheels for a 10" clutch.
The only other thing I see to do is machine the 12 v flywheel to accept the 6v ring gear.

No, shaft size is not the same. Could you put a 6 volt ring gear on your flywheel for the 10" clutch?

Opps, my bad, I was just checking and I see the shaft size difference, case length is way different too. could maybe turn the 6v shaft down and switch noses, but I called the tractor shop and the lathe is big enough to swing the flywheel so I think I'll turn it down for the 6v ring gear. The two seem to be the same od, but the 6v is much thicker.
anybody have a 6v ring gear they want to get rid of?

Why not just drill the 6V flywheel for the bigger clutch cover bolt pattern? Turn the flywheel a little and drill and tap the new holes halfway between the ones that are already there. Set the flywheel up in the lathe and scratch a circle with the cutter bit at the correct diameter for the big pressure plate, then drill and tap the holes. Lots of V8 flywheels have dual bolt patterns for different clutches.

Jerry, that was my plan but with that groove on the face of the flywheel it would be pointless.
Showkey, Thanks, I did not know they were available.
I have talked to a couple friends in two different shops, and they both want to do it in a mill. They say to locate on the center hole then move out and cut the outside. I would locate the outside then cut it,, but I'm not the machinist.
I purchased a 235 today and it has a 6v flywheel and a new 9 inch clutch assembly so I think I'm going to rob it and put the truck back together for now because I am really busy at work and next weekend is tractor pulling again, and I really want to go to the Waterford gabfest in two weeks.

As long as the flywheel surface on both sides of the groove are the same height, you'll never notice it's there.

I agree, what I did not like was the disc didn't make it to the other side of the groove.
I have to either re-drill or machine for the ring gear, so about the same amount of time anyhow. I am fortunate to have access to cnc equipment and friends that will help.

The '49 is back together with the hy jacked parts and I have a nice 235 waiting for me to get a little time.

I think I know why the 216 is getting so noisy,, I do not think much has been done to it, The flywheel still has the X on it and the cover has the O.. and when I was removing the flywheel I could chuck the crank back and forth nearly 1/8 inch. I think she's about wore out!!
