This truck is one of the years where they were changing the format of the codes, and the engine type is not listed on the tag. I don't know if this information is helpful, but the engine is a light blue colour, and is coupled to a 5 spd transmission and a two speed rear axle. Bob

There is supposed to be an engine identification plate on the front upper side of the right hand valve cover, 366 - GM114-366 CID, 427 - 114- 427 CID, hope that helps. | | | | Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 28,675 Kettle Custodian (pot stirrer) | Kettle Custodian (pot stirrer) Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 28,675 | There should be a letter/number sequence stamped (not cast) on a machined pad on the front of the engine block just ahead of the passenger's side cylinder head. The last few digits in the sequence which are usually letters, will identify the engine size and possibly the year it was manufactured. There are several engine number conversion websites on the internet. Jerry

There were several numbers through the 60s, 70s,etc. for the truck tall deck blocks. That might help to narrow it down. Also is there a RPO sticker on the truck? That may have a code for what was originally installed.
