Took truck for over 150 mile drive last weekend and it gets pretty bouncy just over 50. Around $300-325 each. The drive tires were barely usable, a couple took tons of balance weights.
The steering tires were totally useless. After 2 balances it was like driving on egg shaped wheels. Double Coin and Double Star I think.
I returned them and went with the higher quality Sumitomo closer to $500, but less than the Bridgestones closer to $600. Of course that includes all the USA State and federal taxes.
You get what you pay for, and there is nothing worse than a cheap Chinese tire.
| | | | | Joined: Oct 2010 Posts: 1,232 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Oct 2010 Posts: 1,232 | Cheap out-of-round tires, 70 years of wheel abuse, and out-of-balance drums can make any vehicle bounce down the road. An off-vehicle tire balancing machine can't correct the problem. See if you can find an old school alignment shop that can true tires (shave) ON THE VEHICLE, then spin balance ON THE VEHICLE. Very few shops still exist. Most of them specialize in big trucks. Here is a 5:30 video of the process on my 1955 MG TF-1500 by Doug's Alignment in Sanford Florida. - Lonnie

'37 GMC T-18 w/ DD 4-53T, RTO-610, 6231 aux., '95 GMC running gear, full disc brakes, power steering, 22.5 wheels and tires.
'47 GMC 1 ton w/ 302, NP-540, 4wd, full width Blazer front axle.
'54 GMC 630 w/ 503 gasser, 5 speed, ex fire truck, shortened WB 4', install 8' bed.
'55 GMC 370 w/270, 420 4 speed, grain, dump bed truck from ND. Works OK.

1950 4100 - unrestored and driven weekly for almost no reason at all.
