I am reading in the manual that you need a J-1436 Axle shaft bearing and oil seal remover, as well as J-1436-9 Shackle pin remover adapter. I searched the archives and only found information pertaining to the smaller trucks with the cinch thread not bolt clevis and plain bushing that the big bolts have. One member mentioned a hole through the frame where you could use a drift to get them out. The J-1436 tool looks little like a dent puller/slide hammer, has anyone made a tool to get them out? Thanks, Curt | | | | Joined: Nov 2005 Posts: 6,061 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Nov 2005 Posts: 6,061 | Hy 801curt, there probably is an access hole behind the pin in the frame that you can use to drive the pin out with a large punch. I made up a tool to pull the pins out using a threaded rod which I re-threaded to 1/8" pipe thread on the end which screws into the grease fitting hole once it is removed, a piece of pipe/tubing a little longer than the pin and a heavy washer and a nut to thread down the rod has removed every one I have tried so far. You should take the tension/weight off of the pin before you attempt to pull or drive it out, hope that helps. | | | | Joined: Aug 2009 Posts: 311 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Aug 2009 Posts: 311 | Thank You so much 3B! How did you make your threaded rod? Bar stock and a die? Or a length of all thread and a die? I do appreciate the reminder of removing tension.
