O.K. here's your sign, doing a 235 swap on a 1958 chevy 235 to fit in a 49 3100 truck, got the front and rear fitted for the motor mounts, bought a short shaft water pump from classic parts, got the water pump, generator and harmonic pulley's all lined up. The water pump comes with a spacer for it ,but the fan hits the balancer. Help please, I know, here's your sign. Checked to be sure it is a 1958 235 by the casting numbers, and block number. Tell me what I've done wrong !!!

Have you relocated the water pump with one of the available adapters to position it in the same spot as where it would be on the 216? The adapter raises the water pump about 2" and centers the fan in the radiator.

Matt

Read these:

Engine Swap Tech Tip - link given in an earlier post about your engines

Pre '68 Dave's blog post on the water pump relocation adapter

There are different diameter harmonic balancers and different fan-belt groove widths.
