Engine needs a rebuild...but I have a fairly new stock 350 v8 I'd like to use from my 84 c10 I still drive around. I'm thinking of using the 350 trans too but the 1950 still has its trans. It's a column shift and I started thinking about keeping it.
This trans looks tiny, and I've never rebuilt a trans, only a couple of engines...but I'd be willing to give it a try if it will bolt on to my 350 v8. Will it? If so would I need to replace anything from the shifter to the trans? I've read where people changed to floor shift because of issues. Column shift has a nice look...
What about the starter?
Is this an easy rebuild?
Is it a cheap rebuild? Especially compared to getting a rear end and a new driveshaft..
I know a v8 is a tight fit.. but will it bolt up ok and not need to change driveshaft or tube or rear end?
If I went automatic...if I use the 350 trans that requires driveshaft and rear end changes right? There was also an early automatic trans that could bolt in place and use stock tube, driveshaft and rear end right? The guy I got the truck from had a lot of early chevys, if I knew what to look for maybe I could find one. Again...easy rebuild?
I'm liking the idea of keeping the manual ...im betting it's a 3 speed. This would be fine for a daily in town driver right? Could it do 75 mph?

To make a V8 work with a torque tube rear end would require a very talented machinist and perhaps several sticks of dynamite. The only way to properly do a V8 swap is front clip, motor, transmission, driveshaft and new rear end. Lots of work but doable without the Machinist or the dynamite. Good luck.
