My 1966 stepside is still at the body shop. On the driver's side, there is a bracket that the spare tire bolts to. One arm of the bracket goes through a hole in the fender. In that hole, when I dismantled the truck was a rubber grommet. The hole is 1 7/8 inches and the old grommet measures 2 inches on the outside. I've looked at all the usual parts distributors and have found nothing. Additionally, I contacted the folks at Steele and they couldn’t help either. Ideas? Thanks -

So your tire is a fender mount, and not under the bed. Hmmm!!??!!
I sure wish I knew of a scrap yard with one of those fender mounts. Is the rubber piece really necessary?

I have the same spare mount as Tim-o. I too am missing the rubber grommet. May have to fabricate my own.🛠

Have you guys tried the miscellaneous hardware section of your local hardware store? They usually have grommets in various sizes, but that large may be a stretch.

I recall that the old Model A side-mount spare tire arm had a similar grommet thru the splash apron. You might try contacting the Antique Ford ( blush) places with the specs.

[on edit] how about this one?

Thanks folks for your input. The tire mount is indeed on the driver's bedside - right behind the cab. Is the grommet necessary? Probably not except it does make the whole thing look a little finished. I too considered making my own. I restored a CJ2A a few years ago and had to make a larger grommet smaller with some strategic cutting with an exact-o knife. The grommet suggested above by klhansen looks workable to me! I'll order some up and see what happens. I appreciate your help - you guys always come through. Tim-o
