The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area Paint and Body Shop Windshield gasket shrunk in storage?

I was a little optimistic four years ago and bought a rubber windshield gasket. I took it out of storage and put it on just last month, but it doesn't reach into the windshield corners on the cab. A local guy says the glass will stretch the rubber into the corners. Is he right? If it does stretch to fit, I'm not sure it will make a water-tight seal.
Is a new gasket the only fix or is my old one ok?

I put in a brand new windshield gasket and had the same problem.

the glass should stretch it- do it outside on a hot day- let that seal sit out in the hot sun for a while to get it nice and workable.

There is nothing but nothing that works better to help install something rubber than a bucket of hot water. Put the hottest water you can in a bucket and roll that gasket up and stick it in for ten minutes or so and that sucker will be plyable and will install easier than you would ever believe.

Be careful not to tear it though, because it will be VERY soft.

Mine wasn't a problem to install, just didn't fit good. Thats okay I'm going to fix it and go with a glued in windshield.

i replaced the rubber gasket on my windshield a few months ago. did the "sun" warming technique and not unlike fireout1, the corners did not set in very well. first rain storm i knew exactly how well it worked...just about as good as the old weather checked and cracked original window seal. many hours later and some interesting sealing operations i think i've got it weather tight. some rough spots where i had to fill some gaps but i'd rather have a good seal even if it doesn't look perfect.

thats the problem with all the repro crap,,,everyone says theirs is the best,,guaranteed.HA! after struggling with it for a couple days,you try to send it back and they dont understand why youre having problems,,,"gee,nobody else has had problems with our products". so you end up paying the shipping to send it back. then its the same junk from the other dealers.(mainly American Classics) so......youre stuck with poor quality,taiwanese made junk.
