It it easier to change the manifold gasket with taking out the bolts and switch out without disassembling the carb and ex. muffler first, spread and change???'''''''Thanks, Paul

Paul, I am now in Scotland; and, after having a few nippy sweeties - I can almost understand your question(s).

Which manifold gasket, intake to exh. Manifold or manifolds to head? Why do you think it needs to be changed?

You can do it that way if every thing is clean & in good shape. Usually you have to get it on the bench to scrape the surfaces. A thin coat of copper RTV on each side of the gasket helps fill any small imperfections. If it is leaking between the manifolds you will need to separate them. This leads to all sorts of problems like broken studs & such. If you are going to take the pipe off the ex. manifold its best to heat the nuts to a cherry red first.

And use brass or Sibronze nuts upon reassembly. One also needs to loosely reassemble the manifolds, then bolt to the head securely, WITHOUT the gaskets, then tighten the manifolds together before inserting the gaskets and finishing up.
