Manifold or manifolds to head? Why do you think it needs to be changed?

Thanks, Paul | | | | Joined: Jun 2004 Posts: 8,597 Riding in the Passing Lane | Riding in the Passing Lane Joined: Jun 2004 Posts: 8,597 | You can do it that way if every thing is clean & in good shape. Usually you have to get it on the bench to scrape the surfaces. A thin coat of copper RTV on each side of the gasket helps fill any small imperfections. If it is leaking between the manifolds you will need to separate them. This leads to all sorts of problems like broken studs & such. If you are going to take the pipe off the ex. manifold its best to heat the nuts to a cherry red first. They say money can't buy happiness. It can buy old Chevy trucks though. One also needs to loosely reassemble the manifolds, then bolt to the head securely, WITHOUT the gaskets, then tighten the manifolds together before inserting the gaskets and finishing up.
