If so, comments as far as reliability, etc? Looks like only one mfg is making it. Going to make the conversion.
FYI....Im sure this is already known but if you remove the glove box liner and door, the vacuum based unit is then so easy to remove. Two screws, dash knob assembly, one clip and it is out. Easy (for a change...). All this because the seat frame is welded to the floor so tough to move on your back and get under the dash, at least on the '54, needless to say.

As stated, removing and replacing was easy. The most difficult part was getting my 6' 240# frame out from under the dash and slithering across the floor and out the door. It was not a pretty site and probably would have scared small children had they seen my twisting and squirming. I wish I had thought of the glove box trick. | | | | | Joined: Mar 2010 Posts: 10,301 Renaissance Man | | Renaissance Man Joined: Mar 2010 Posts: 10,301 | To ease the under-dash uncomfortability, I use a 5 foot long piece of plywood which is the right width to fit between the front of the door opening and the seat base. You will need to come up with a saw horse or a stack of something to support the outside end of the board outside of the truck (my air compressor is the right height and when it comes on, it provides a soothing vibration for my chronic lower back pain ).

My question is should I send my vacuum unit off to Wiperman for a rebuild or is there any other ideas you're aware of? | | | | | Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,270 Bubba - Curmudgeon | | Bubba - Curmudgeon Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,270 | The original GM 54/55st 6v electric wiper is very hard to fine (with mounting bracket).
Wiperman is the only way to get a vacuum wiper rebuilt with original parts. I only use his services.
What other types of ideas are you looking for?
Ways to have more consistent vacuum? - vacuum reservoir (I will try this someday) - dual-action fuel pump (better than stock set-up for almost constant wiper movement) | | | | | Joined: Jun 2011 Posts: 5,096 Crusing in the Passing Lane | | Crusing in the Passing Lane Joined: Jun 2011 Posts: 5,096 | I'm glad my '54 630 has overhead wipers.

Someone rode with me in the rain the other day and asked if it was a vacuum, he should have known, he was one of the mechanics that worked on it. Other than the blades I am satisfied with them after 27,000 miles of use.
