I have a '67 Chevy C10 SWB Fleetside, with a '68 bed box on it.

The outside body has some dents and dings, and probably can be fixed by a professional, although one side appears to have some bondo in it, where the "lines" are close to the cab.

The tailgate looks almost perfect on the outside, and has the stamped "Chevrolet" which I really like. Unfortunately, the bottom of the inside of the tailgate is rusted out, with holes, at the bottom of the gate, almost all the way across. I don't know how to repair that.

It has a Steel bed floor, and the floor is rusted out with holes, as well as the front bed panel where they join.

The rest of the inside of the bed box looks terrible, but isn't rusted really bad. I think I can take care of all that with some serious elbow grease.

Is it possible to clean and repair the rusted out holes in those areas, and if so, what's the best procedure?

Also, I see a lot of trucks in car shows that have bed boxes from newer trucks. Is it a huge problem doing this?

Davey, Just patch the holes as best you can and put a wood floor right over it. If you do it right no one will know that it isn't a professional replacement. You used to have pics of my truck, look at the bed.

By the way, I have a extra, solid tailgate that is the same as my 62 don't know if it will fit or how you would get it.???? A little surface rust but not bad

The '62 tailgate won't work on the '67-72 Fleetside. The beds are different. New tailgates and bedsides are availible if you want to go that route, and sometimes NOS parts pop up at swap meets.

I persnally don't care for the later beds on the earlier trucks & as hard as short beds for 67-72s are to find, I would say patch her up. Some guys also cut the entire bed floor from a newer(even up to 98) truck & weld that in place. Brian

Just a question,

box sides for these (as in 67-72 fleetside) trucks are just 'bolt on' right?

Thanks.

Yeah, their boltd, with a few spot welds tha twere used for manufacturthat are not necessary for bed strength. And as i stated, new bedsides for the short Fleetside are available, from Sherman and Associates as I recall.

Thanks everybody. I've spent so much more money on this truck than I originally intended, and some of the stuff I paid for still isn't right.

Like this nagging steering problem. I'd be ready to take that one on myself now, if I could remember how someone explained to me to fix it.

I know I can buy brand new body parts for the truck, but am really looking for cheaper alternatives at this point. Plus I'm trying to learn.

I originally wanted to try to get this one back to near original condition. That's apparently out of the question for me at this point, from a financial point.

I'm just trying to get it to where it drives properly, and the gauges all work, and it's safe to drive.

As bad as she looks now, she really looks a lot better than when I bought her.

Thanks!

Hang in there, one day you will say it was all worth it. (then you will sell it and start over)
