For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: May 2004 Posts: 204 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: May 2004 Posts: 204 | I recently replaced my drivers side outer cowl and rear cab corner. And I also replaced the passenger side outer cowl. I used a level to square up the panels and didn't think to measure the original door gap. Well, I got myself into a pickle. I welded everything up and to check myself I set the door in place and I have some serious door gap issues. Please take a look and help me decided what might be the best solution. I seriously do not want to cut these panels out and re-replace them so any advice is welcome. One more note: I just placed the door in position I don't have the hinges in yet. Should I put the hinges on before I really start to have a panic attack?? http://picasaweb.google.com/akuips/PanelReplacementPictures Thanks in advance for your advice! | | | | | Joined: Jul 2004 Posts: 5,708 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jul 2004 Posts: 5,708 | chev235,
I don't think this is end of the world. I do think you will notice them if you don't do a 'fix' before you paint the rig.
If you don't want to remove them, it seems the only alternative would be to weld a thin strip to the flange to straighten out the crooked body line.
I think body filler alone would not be permanent enough. Careful welding and some grinding and filler would probably give you great results.
The patch panels were not aligned with the rest of the body. I think just laying the door in as you have done is proof enough that the reveal is not true.
I wonder if the fender is going to fit correctly?

The door alignment may be causing the bad body lines.Although I am seeing the replacement panel is hanging down lower than the door.So you may have to cut out the panel and reweld in place to get the correct look.
"you can't fix stupid"
