Hey guys,

So I am new to this forum and this website. I am also somewhat new to my 1959 viking.

I bought the truck from Nebraska. It is in fairly decent shape but the doors have trouble shutting correctly and any kind of seal that it did have has dry rotted away.

I also have a lot of rust on the roof where the driver side sun visor sits. Does anyone else have or had this same rust spot? How did you fix it? Is there a replacement interior roof I can put in there?

Also, I was wondering if anyone wanted to give me some information on window seals and door seals. How did you guys get you doors to close correctly?

I am planning on leaving the truck as is, but I am going to replace the engine and the drive train. I want to convert it to a four wheel drive truck as well. Which raises my next question, has anyone converted one of these rigs to a 4wd system?

A lot of information right now, but I am very excited to work on the truck. When I start working on it with more time I might to a build thread.

Hy Sven, welcome, you can remove your doors from the truck and remove and rebuild your hinges, there are kits available in the "help" line containing pins and bushings, these should be available from your Friendly Local Auto Parts Store (FLAPS). As to your weather stripping, look up Steele Rubber on the confusilator they should have a listing for your truck (parts are the same as a pickup) Steeles quality is very good. As to the rust issues, if you are not comfortable doing the bodywork yourself then ask around and see if you can find a bodyman that people in you area trust and have him look at the job and give you an estimate if he thinks it is repairable, hope that helps.

welcome to the site! Bottom left of the page is a link to a tutorial on posting pictures. (looks like you figured it out though)I have a 58 Viking 60 so, almost identical to yours. Rust on the inner panel is very common. These cabs are the same as a pickup so, yes, a replacement inner roof panel is available, but that entails welding it in. I cleaned mine out as best as I could, painted the interior with a satin black primer, and left the holes. I was thinking I might fill it with some spray foam, trim it and re-paint but, probably won't touch it since I am going to be building a 55.2 extended cab to put on the truck. Man I love the look of your 58. Did you do anything to the exterior paint, such as a clear coat? Or did you leave it as is?

Im planning on leaving my truck as is, only thing I am going to redo is the power train. I might replace the entire interior and make the inside look new. What did you do for lights on your 58?

Thanks, glad you like it! I took a bit of rubbing compound on a rag and wiped it a bit to get the grime off, other than that, no clear or anything else. I put LED lights in everything except the lights on top of the front fenders (and the headlights). I also put LED lights in the dash. I did not do an LED for the dome light and I did not get around to changing the one out for the heater controls, it is a bit of a pain to get to.

Until 1959 Chev used the same cab from the 1/2 ton up to the Viking 100 which was their largest offering for the year. Here is a Viking 100 I bought about a year ago.

If you notice, it uses the standard Chev cab. Only the front end has been modified for larger tires. This makes cab restoration the same as for a pickup.

Where did you get light lenses and led bulbs, also the trim for the lights? I'm missing some of mine. Also interior parts, where can I get those? All model chevy trucks in 59 have the same cabs and lights and trim, is that correct?

Awesome that is huge for finding parts for restoration. What's the best place to buy remake parts for the cabs?

Also does anyone know where the vin number is? I couldn't find mine. I have a frame marking that says "58K104306"

Does the 58 mean the truck actually is a 58? From some pictures I have seen online of the 58 and the 59 makes me think it is a 59, but I guess I can't be 100% sure.

Sven - the vin would be on a tag on the drivers door frame, yours must be gone, but yes, the frame stamped number is the vin and says it's a '58 .... the only real difference in 58-59 is the fender and hood emblems .... and the best place to buy cab sjeet metal is really whoever is cheapest, they all have the same Asian made stuff

Your truck IS a 1958 as confirmed by the serial number and the hood & fender emblems.

The frame numbers never have the "series" number/letters stamped that the door post tag would have.

Here's the way your serial number 58K104306 breaks down. You door tag should start with 6B.

6 = 60 Series
B = 156" wheel base
58 = year
K = Kansas City Plant
104306 = unit number out of plant K starting with 10001

ALL parts in and on the Cab are the same as the pickup trucks, as are the inner fenders and hood. The fenders and grille are shared with the 1958/59 Series 40 trucks.

By any chance does anyone know the measurement of the front end from wheel mount surface to wheel mount surface?

Also has anyone seen a 4x4 conversion?
I know NAPCO used to do them, but it's hard to find NAPCO trucks.

I bought cheap LED bulbs off Ebay, as well as the marker lights on my bed, and one of the tail light lenses. Front park lights, you should be able to get from American classic in either white or amber. Remember that LED bulbs need to be the same color as the lense they are shining through.
