I was wondering if anyone has used a clear paint protection film to protect the running boards. Something like this
3m Or, if it is tough enough for the job. Any comments appreciated.

Get them sprayed with bedliner. It can be smooth or textured. That's what I will do to mine when the time comes.

I used POR15 Hardnose paint about 14 years ago and is still holding up excellent. Dave

Agree both are good ideas, but I want the running boards same as the body so that is why I was asking about the clear covering.

Finish is hard as a rock.

The paint protection film will scuff and haze with use but it's pretty easy to remove and and replace with a new piece so you could plan on that.
I'd give it a try for sure! Good idea!

The paint protection films are pretty soft, so you might get away with polishing it if you get some scuffs in it. Unlike "hard as glass" coatings, you have a chance to buff it. If you're unhappy with a buffed result, peal, chuck and replace.

Do not buy 3M branded paint protection film if your body color is white as the 3M film has a yellow tinge. It will change the color of your paint. They're many other brands besides 3M that are NOT yellow.

There are clear truck bed coatings- Rustoleum, Duplicolor, and Spraylining's "Crystal Lining". Perhaps one of those might do the trick?

Dennis--just put duplicolor truck bed coating on the bottom with a brush, and sprayed their product on top of my running boards. I have a green truck which will have black fenders and black running boards. I plan to use this on the inside of the hood as well--Good Luck Bill
