The speedo I pulled out of my truck two weeks ago was pretty much seized. I had to take it apart, clean it and lube it to get it turning freely again. See if you can spin the little brass collar on the back (right where the speedo cable goes in).

If it is, you probably have a problem where the inner cable is applying pressure on the inner shaft. I have observed this playing with spares on the bench. It also may have something to do with worn bearings or bushings inside. | | |
