I'm having some trouble timing my 235, I pulled the distributor to clean/ check the spring and rub washer. My son was helping me put it back in and decided it was easier to back off the clamp and install the bracket, then the distributor. I don't think its indexed correctly, so I'm checking from square one. My question is if the points should be open or closed at TDC? My senior moment tells me no then I think yes. Hate it when I can't remember info I haven't used for years! Thanks

check the thread on knocking after a new vacuum advance.

Static time using the pointer on the bell housing and the BB in the flywheel. #1 cylinder on compression stroke. The light should just come on. I use a home made T-handle crank to turn the engine over.
