Hi All,

I am rebuilding my doors on my 1950 1/2 ton. Do I have to remove the window to get the window channel in? What about the mounting screws, there are no pre-existing holes in the channel. Seems almost imposible to drill hole and have them line up with the holes on the door? Is there any tricks to the installation?

Yes, because you have to cut it to fit.
Remove the window
Slip one end of the channel into frame and slide it under the clip at the bottom.
work your way around pressing it firmly into the track.
Cut the other end to to fit and slide it under the other clip.
Drill several holes through the channel and frame tap size for #4 screws. ( I usually go back and open the hole in the channel 1 drill size larger so the flat head screws sit down tight)
Install the flat head sheet metal screws.

How do you know where to cut it so that it fits.

Lets say you start in the front. When you have it all securely tucked into the frame up the front and across the top down to the straight back side, slide the bottom end into the tab in the track. If there is a bulge in the channel, there is too much material. Trim to fit.
Note: use clamps to make sure it is completely into the corners and straight on the top and sides before you cut)
Depending where you bought it, could be 1/2 " or 2".

When I put mine into the channel correctly, it goes all the way past the latch on the inside of the door. I was very confused at that, hence the question.

The channel has to go all the way to the bottom of the window guide so that , when the window is in the fully down position, the window is supported in the channel. Otherwise the window would rattle around and possibly jump out of the track.
Does yours have the vent window or single glass?

It has vent windows

Then it goes from the bottom of the vent window track, up , over and down to the bottom of the rear door track.

You may need a division bar in the front where the vent glass is so the channel is holding the front of the glass properly. It is a ridged channel, some come with a chrome trim, or you can get them without. (This is only for trucks with vent windows.

If I understand correctly, you do not use the pre-existing holes. You drill new holes in the channel and door frame.

My window bolts are stuck. I have use penetrating oil and the proper clutch driver but I have not been able to get the window out. The window sits in a channel, these are the bolts that seem to hold the window in place. Anyone have suggestion on how to get the window out?

The easiest way to get the window out is to remove the vent wing assembly, then slide the window channel off the regulator assembly.

Remove vent assembly, roll window up and tilt it and should slide right out!

I have a 1950, it does not have a vent window. I looks like it sits in a channel and is pinched together with the five screws?

One piece window is easy.
Remove inside window molding
Remove inside handles and door panel
lower the window slightly and remove the 4(?) screws holding the bottom of the window frame to the regulator.
Crank the regulator all the way down out of the way.
Let the window drop down a little and rotate the glass front edge down (takes a little pressure)until the glass is free of the track and lift the window out from the top.
Installation is the .reverse

Just like they said start towards the front and slide into the clip
Progress and use a few wraps of masking tape to hold it tight to the door window frame; tap in place at the corners using a 1" piece of wood
Keep taping every six inches or so
Take a marker and mark where it run past the clip on the door latch side
Remove and cut off
Drill and place flathead screws as instructed earlier in post
