Is there a chart showing PPG's numbers that are equivilant to AD truck color (interior and Ext)?

Sorry for posting what I just found by doing a search. Forester green seems to be PPG's 40519

We probably need a tech tip detailing just that. Maybe I will work on it.

For the original interior color, I suggest using Chevy Duty's product. I do not have a color code for it. Or at least one I consider a good match. A buddy of mine took a sample of the CD paint to a paint dealer and had it scanned, but the result was not a match in my eyes.

Here are exterior and interior Advance-Design paint codes for PPG and DUPONT. The list is not complete but I have been adding codes as I find them. This will be cleaned up and colorized and submitted for a Tech Tip. There are also links to paint chips.

TCLEADERMAN, When you do your tech tip could you include the OEM numbers so the conversion would be easier. Thanks

Craig,

Good suggestion. I will have to check to see what RPO numbers I have. Is the RPO number/code what you are referring to?

Examples:

1949
RPO 234-H Windsor Blue
RPO 234-K Sun Beige

1954
RPO 234P Transport Blue
RPO 234R Coppertone

It might also be nice to add the wheel/body stripe color names and paint codes (not all were also exterior colors).

I do not have Truck Data Books or Restoration Pack Specification manuals with RPO codes for most years (I have 1949, 1950, 1953, 1954, 1955-1st). If anyone sends me the year, color names, and RPO codes for other years, I will add them to the paint codes (and reference the person's name in the Tech Tip).

Thanks,
Tim

Hey, TC, what ever happened to that list, I still can't access it from either one of my confusers?

Denny,

I just got back from VA. Give it a try now. I think I have all references pointing to my home webserver.

Let me know what happens, either way. You've been patient - I hope its OK.

That will do it TC, thanks a bunch for posting those. That’s a real asset for the forum. I’m going to download them and burn them to a CD so they will be permanently part of my library.
I don’t belong to VCCA but if there is anyone out there that does, do they have something similar at their site? As nit picky as they are, I’m sure that this subject is discussed on a day-to-day basis.
Still a few gaps open when it comes to the interior colors on the early ones. And what kind of luck would one have modern day, at a paint dealer converting the three manufacturers paint numbers to today’s formula?
Thanks again TC.

I have a 51 and understand that the interior color was the same for all through 53? I didn't see it listed on that chart. Otherwise it is a great compilation. I was told this when I asked the question in another section.

"Here'the PPG colors:
PPG DDL3613 or DCC5558. One is a single stage and the other a two-stage."

Todd,

Do you know what the original PPG and/or Dupont codes were for those interior colors? The only documented interior colors that I have in the Tech Tip are for 1949, 1953, and 1954/55.

In answer to Denny's question above, PPG can provide modern codes (called offsets) for most of the old colors/codes. Information on how to obtain the modern PPG codes/offsets is provided at the bottom of the Tech Tip.

tclederman,
Hold off on Todd's quote for PPG #'s. I'm trying to get clarification. I'm the one responsible for those from an earlier thread. But I do believe I got those directly from Bob Alder a while back. But after seeing the paint on my interior, i'm VERY scheptic(sp)!!!!
The color is a dark copper brown with metal flake.
I've got this questions in various spots in the forum so should get an answer soon.
I'd post pictures here but do not know how. If someones sends me their email address, I can send the pics to them and they can post it.

Rattletrap 52,

You do not have an email address in your profile. If you want to send me photos, I will post them (my email address is in my profile).

Do you know (or does anyone else reading this know) the original name of the interior color(s)? Any chance it was "Medium Tan Metalli-Chrome" and/or "Dark Tan Metalli-Chrome"? Or, was the original name of the color "Sheen Gray (Metallic) Poly"?

I posted in the interior forum a new thread. It has a link to my collection of interior pictures.
