However if the 235 you're using is a later model ('54 and newer) there will be some engine parts that will not interchange.

Pre-1954 235's resemble 216's but there are some pretty basic differences when attempting to swap internal parts. The blocks are a different height, the pistons, crankshafts, and oil pans are different, and there might be some differences in the intake manifolds and carburetors. 216 and early 235 Babbitt connecting rods will swap as long as the year is correct- - - -there are two different widths of rod big ends. 235 pushrods are a little longer than 216's to accommodate the taller block. Rocker arms should swap, and other than centrifugal advance calibration and possibly the alloy of the drive gear, distributors can be interchanged, also starters, flywheels and bellhousings, as long as 6 and 12 volt engine flywheels are matched up to the correct starters.
