| | | | Joined: Aug 2012 Posts: 131 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Aug 2012 Posts: 131 | I bought a rebuilt carburetor from Classic Parts of America and had a question on a hole that was not in my original carburetor. It is shown in this image: http://s1285.photobucket.com/user/1...20of%20America/Carb_zps14mskaz7.jpg.htmlIs this hole in any of the carburetors from the factory? Any idea why it would have been added? Will the carburetor function with this hole? I don't like the idea of having that big of a hole open to the fuel bowl. Should I return this gem and try somewhere else? Fittings are damaged where someone removed or installed with a pair of pliers instead of a wrench, it looks like they use double gaskets to compensate for the warped bowl instead of properly heading it in a fixture to bend it back, screws are excessively long, spray paint finish is not great with rust showing through on the linkage.

Was there a purpose for the hole?

The double gasket will interfere with the high speed mixture. (The carb will run rich) since it places the float and needle valve in the wrong position to work with the geometry of the drilled passages between the float chamber and the venturi. Return it for credit, and find some other supplier. Be sure to tell them why you're shopping elsewhere.
