We have a 69 C60 with tag axle. And looking from outside they appear to be 5 spoke. How do I figure out exactly what wheel we have?
New to site and just surfing forums it appears there are safety issues with the widow maker. | | | | Joined: Jan 2008 Posts: 4,903 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Jan 2008 Posts: 4,903 | If they are spoke type wheels, they are not R-H5°. There are various lock ring type open center wheels available and tubeless drop center wheels are also available. Does the entire truck have open center wheels or just the tag axle? | | | | Joined: May 2017 Posts: 11 New Guy | New Guy Joined: May 2017 Posts: 11 | We've only had the truck a few months and I think the spokes are all the way around. We've never had a big truck before so I just glanced at them and the tires. All looked like new. Never new there were issues like "widow maker" until I joined Stovebolt a couple days ago. I've been researching brake upgrades and while surfing forums ran across wheel issue. The truck is at our farm about a 100 miles from here so next time we go over I was going to really look at all wheels. Just wasn't sure what to look for that's why I posed question.

After more reading it appears the Daytons are fairly safe. Tire availability and looks might be to reasons to upgrade. Buy a set of Chinese-made tube type bias ply tires, the same size as the ones that are on it now. They should last 20-something years at least, and the sidewalls will dry rot long before the tread wears out. You probably won't even get them warm enough to iron out the flat spots that develop from being parked for a few days at a time. Jerry

Once we know for sure what you actually have, we can be more helpful with making recommendations. Welcome to Big Truck Land!

Trucks in great shape except for a couple cancer spots about 6" below windshield corners on both sides. Had tag axle hydraulic cylinder rebuilt and planning on installing it. When there will take pictures of tires/wheels. Wasn't sure if there were any numbers stamped into wheels and that was what I was thinking in my original post. | | | | Joined: Oct 2013 Posts: 331 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Oct 2013 Posts: 331 |
