Burned out 6v fuel gauge when I converted to 12v in my 53 -3100. Installed new 12v gauge and it seems to be stuck at 3/4 tank. Unhooked wires from sending unit and it stays on 3/4. Am I wired wrong?

"Unhooked wires from sending unit . . .[/b] . . . "

Do you have more than one wire from the tank sending unit to the gauge?

Did the new 12v gauge indicate the ohm rating for the sending unit?

One wire to gauge and one ground. Don't know the ohm rating. New gauge but sending unit was in when it was still 6 v

From where to ground?

From where to gauge?

Was 12v ever used with the gauge?

Do you have a runtz-style voltage reducer between the hot wire and the gauge?

You have a bad gauge. What did the new gauge read when you received it.
Which post did you wire to ignition switch?
Gauges do not like it when you do it backwards. Ignition switch wire goes to the "E" (empty) post.
