New clutch, finally fired off truck. Clutch won't release. Any ideas. Just grinds and wont go into any gear.

What did you take out to install the new clutch? Did you remove the stick shift and top plate of the tranny? New pressure plate and throwout bearing? We need more info

You might have the disc in backwards. The pilot shaft may be tight in the pilot brg.

Yes new pressure plate pilot bearing throw out bearing. Yes had top plate off and shifter out. All went back together no problems.

There are short and long throwout bearings, long is 1.875".

'47 GMC 1 ton w/ 302, NP-540, 4wd, full width Blazer front axle.
'54 GMC 630 w/ 503 gasser, 5 speed, ex fire truck, shortened WB 4', install 8' bed.
'55 GMC 370 w/270, 420 4 speed, grain, dump bed truck from ND. Works OK.

If you did not get the shifter fork from the stick back correctly that could cause shifting problems. Also the throw-out bearing length as mentioned.

with engine off, will shift through gears no problem. with engine off, in gear, push in clutch and cant move vehicle. will check length of throwout bearing.

Well, turns out to be rookie mistake. Disk was in backwards. Oh well, on to the next problem.
