im rebuilding my brake system but was wondering, how will i know if i need new brake shoes? is there an indicater located somewhere that i dont know about or a certain thickness that the shoes need to have on them? i want to do it all right the first time but not waste money on things not needed. any adice would be greatly appreciated

If you are going to rebuild the brakes and want it all to last then you need to rebuild it all, completely. I am just rebuilding the brakes on my wifes 63 Dodge Dart and putting on new shoes, springs, wheel cylinders and master cylinder. didn't plan on replacing the brake lines as I didn't plan on restoring the old Dart, just keep it running, but now I find out I will need to replace the brake line also. Wish I had just bought all the parts at once. Now I will have to wait till tomorrow or later to get the parts. Heck!!! With these old rigs- if yer gonna do something- DO IT ONCE and DO IT "RIGHT"!!!-LOL
so, what I'm saying is replace everything you can, the brakes are the most important part. You do need to have that truck STOP!!!-LOL

These are better brakes and are avaliable at all parts stores. It will be a bolt in and just get the complete backing plate/drum assemblies from a junkyard. I have a complete system from a 51 that I plan on intalling on my 37 if I dont go to modern drivetrain and autozone had the shoes and drums in stock,it is something to consider. Jeff | | |

Mine looked good but I had them done anyway, it costs $15 and they were very out of round. It was actually funny to watch, and scary at the same time.
