At first I thought that the previous owner trimmed off rusty edges somewhat and rebent edge back in. Now after seeing pictures of 1 Ton and heavier duty trucks, it appears that that is what I have on mine. the larger opening was for the large tire turning clearance. But I do not have duallie set up in back and VIN number indicates 3/4 ton. Has anyone heard of this odd combination before or myabe special order? It is possible I guess that the fenders were replaced at one point with what was available. Anyhow any info would be appreciated. Thanks. | | | | | Joined: Dec 2003 Posts: 975 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Dec 2003 Posts: 975 | There was a post on here a while back...sounds like that because of the war, less sheetmetal was used on some fenders.
Any chance someone swapped them out in the past and put the heavier fenders your 3/4 ton? On my first truck, another half ton, I experimented with it but did not like the look. Back in the "day" I am betting that if the fenders were wrecked, a P/O might have stuck them on there to keep the truck in service... | | | | | Joined: May 2006 Posts: 8,351 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: May 2006 Posts: 8,351 | They didn't start cutting back the fenders until '42, after the US joined the war. Even then, I think that they only did it on 1 1/2 ton's, as that was what was mostly produced during the war.

Here's a shot of my 47 1 ton that would have the same fenders. | | | | | Joined: Mar 2006 Posts: 37 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Mar 2006 Posts: 37 | Pictures are on the gallery page under Dean's (or Louie's) 41 3/4 ton. It's two tone purple (previous owners paint). But they are kind of dark. I'll try and take some brighter shots this weekend. The huge opening makes the front tire in front look like so tiny. I hope if I lower the front end somewhat it won't look so bad. I know real steel front fenders are hard to come by and I'd rather not go to fiberglass in the front. Head on it reminds me of a VW buggy, lol. | | | | | Joined: Dec 2003 Posts: 975 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Dec 2003 Posts: 975 | Dean,
What is your time line for finishing? You could keep your eye out for steel front fenders and add them when you complete the pair. Food for thought..I brought my steel fenders in for sandblasting and asked about having them repaired by the body shop. The shop was capable and willing to work on the "old stuff" but the owner was up front with me and said at $55.00 per hour, I was probably looking at $600 or more for all 4 to be re-worked. That did not include the $50 per fender sandblasting fee. Ouch!
I know where you are coming from on the steel. I chose to just have them blasted and decided to try to do what I could myself.
But if you are still looking for steel, keep an eye out and they will turn up. | | | | | Joined: Jan 2015 Posts: 16 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Jan 2015 Posts: 16 | Bumping.. has anyone else put the larger? fenders on a 3/4ton? | | |
