For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Dec 2005 Posts: 12 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Dec 2005 Posts: 12 | I have been having a tough time getting my hood to fit properly on my 52 half ton pickup. I have spent many hours trying to make the hood fit and i am at my wits end here. Basically the truck is completely restored and I am just not quite happy with the way the hood fits. It is great at the end of the nose (fenders and grill and latching well), but there is a large gap at the front of the windshield just in front of the cowl vent at the base of the windshield. It is not alot, but i could desperately use about a 1/4 inch and i don't have it to spare with my current running boards. I was wondering if there is difference in length between 48-53 half ton running boards. Mine measure about 67 inches on the outside end to end. Any info on this would be very much appreciated. If there are shorter ones that would solve a big problem for me here. Thanks in advance for any info you folks can provide.

Do a search and you will find ALOT of threads about trying to align hoods and fenders. Some folks spend all of their days before the committment papers are signed working on this. The best advice generally given is follow the instructions in the manual (reprinted here:http://www.chevytrucks.org/tech/AD_hood_alignment.htm ) and then just keep messing with it. Also you may want to take comfort in the fact that if you look at vintage show room pictures of these trucks, the factory didn't get it right either. Finally, as to your specific problem, you may want to try to add shims under the radiator support frame to raise the front of the hood. Of course when you do this it will probably mess up all of your other good alignments and then you will have to work on them. Most folks get to good enough and leave it at that. The factory fit and finish on these trucks was never great. Good luck | | |
