I am running a 283 and SM465 manual transmission. I am starting from scratch. I have 66 283 Chevelle manifolds. What size pipe would you recommend. Would it be pretty much a straight shot to the back being its a flat bed? | | | | | Joined: Oct 2016 Posts: 916 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Oct 2016 Posts: 916 | [Edit] I just saw your pics on PB- I thought the 3600 and the 3800 shared the same frame- obviously not! What a beast!

They also have very low torque. A 1 3/4" or 1 7/8" pipe should be plenty of diameter. 2" or bigger pipes will tend to reduce the low-end torque of the engine due to low exhaust gas velocity.
I'd recommend 1 7/8" pipes with moderately free-flowing mufflers- - - -no point in deafening yourself with a set of Cherry Bombs or something similar. Jerry

I would however like it to have a nice Mellow sound.
